I currently reside in Hollywood (not a big fan) but am anxiously awaiting a move to Burbank come September. I am an aspiring actor, but will be looking to substitute teach in the Burbank district. I have been to Burbank a few times, and LOVE it. I like the fact that there are real people, its clean, has its own airport, many studios there, and althought it may be revered as boring, that suits me just fine. Can you think of any other pros/cons about living there. Despite being only a few miles from me in Hollywood, it truly does seem to be another world. Also, I was looking to get involved with acting classes there as well as a part time job bartending, any adivce. Thanks SO much.

Since Burbank is closer the the actual location of most of the studios, it should be a much better place for you. If you want a part time job bartending, you should be able to find a number of locations along Alameda, especially close to NBC, Warner Bros, Disney, and ABC (which is on the edge of Glendale next to Burbank). You're close to everything, and Burbank is a step up from Hollywood.

(I don't know why anyone still thinks "Hollywood" is the place to be. It's a myth, and not the best place to live. Heck, I do my best to bust the myth and tell people NOT to move there. But anyways...)

On the down side, you will be in the San Fernando Valley, which means summers will be about 10 or more degrees hotter. However, there are a LOT of pools in Burbank, so hopefully you'll get a place with one.

Overall, it's definitely a step up. Good luck. Break a leg.

The quality of housing is MUCH better (what you get for your money) in Burbank vs Hollywood. Most bars and restaurants are cheaper than Hollywood, and you're about 10 minutes to Glendale, Los Feliz, Silverlake, Studio City, Sherman Oaks and Hollywood - so there's a LOT of options for places to go (check Citysearch or LA.com for some of their picks)

Burbank is separate from the city of LA so it has it's own police dept (if you've ever had to call the police in LA - it's a nightmare). That's a large part why it's cleaner and safer. I rarely see homes or apartments with bars on the windows. It's definitely easier (aka less traffic!!!) to get in, out, and around Burbank than it is in Hollywood. In Burbank, you meet more legit industry types when you go out and less tourists :)

The downside is that there are some areas of Burbank that totally shut down at night and weekends, and you see a lot of family neighborhoods that don't tolerate any noise, parties, etc. If you haven't found a place to move yet, I would check closer to Downtown Burbank and Glendale and not the north part of Burbank or on the edge of North Hollywood. You could look in Toluca Lake or Studio City which are both nice, and you're still pretty close to Burbank.

Is Burbank California Safe

Burbank's the place for you.

mostly, it's nice. some gang activity, but since some miscreant gangsters shot a cop a couple of years ago, the BPD are making it very uncomfortable for them.

FYI, Burbank does not have rent control. Utilities are higher. There are 57 movies theaters, put no place to park.

Burbank used to be dumpy. You'll recall Johnny Carson's jokes about beautiful downtown Burbank. But the city's revitalized since then.

Nirvana it ain't, but overall it's not bad.

Burbank is a nice place... it has its own good and bad sides of town, and I really love the restaurants there. I personally reccomend if you really want a good neighborhood, you're better off in the Glendale/Pasadena area. Its a very short drive from Glendale to Burbank, and Glendale has better schools if you have children. Not to say the Burbank is a bad place. I love it there.
