Mmm I love homemade wine. My Dad used to make loads of homemade booze but I especially liked the wine he made from Ribena. Delicious!
Don't think you need to pay tax. Just drink and enjoy or even invite a couple mates round to help polish it off.
Be prepared for a whopper hangover tho!

You only have to pay tax if you want to sell it. No tax is due if you drink it yourself or give it away. This is true in UK, US and probably most/all other countries. If you did need to pay tax it is more difficult to measure the alcohol after it is made anyway. The usual procedure (for beer anyway) is to measure the original gravity (OG) before fermentation with a very accurate, calibrated hydrometer and then measure the SG again at the end of the fermentation and calculate the amount of alcohol from the difference.

I wouldnt even worry about a kit, most important thing to find is a 5 or 6 gallon stainless stell pot, and a 5 gallon glass carboy and/or a 5 gallong plastic bucket with room for the little device to let the oxygen out... bsides that just get some tubing and a capper. Also id reccomend splurging and getting the 6 gallon cooking pot, i have a 5 gallon and regret it

No tax necessary, just a toast to the tax man. Hide the wine, though, just in case:)

Homemade wine is not taxable; the same goes for beer. As long as you keep it under the limit (about 200 gallons a year) and don't try selling it, you're fine.
