How Many Points On License

2016-11-11 05:15:30 · answer #4 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

If you have 12 points or more in a 3 year period then you are liable to disqualified under the totting up procedure. For the first totting up offence you normally get a 6 month disqualification - 2nd time 12 months etc.

It is not an automatic disqualification. If you have extenuating circumstances then you may not be disqualified.

However, if you get 6 or more points in the first 2 years off passing your first driving test then you will not be disqualified but you will be revoked under the new drivers act (1995) and you will have to apply for a provisional licence again and take a theroy and practicle test again.

How many points can you get on your license in the UK before you can lose it?

12 (except for your first 2 years then its only six) If your job depends on having a licence you may be granted special dispensation and drive with over 12 points but this is rare. If you've just been caught your better off asking for a ban. This is often only 14 days, much better than racking up a full set of points and loosing your licence for a year.

If you are a new driver like me then it's 6 points within the 1st two years,
After the 2 years you are allowed up to 12 points

12 points

12 points will get you an automatic 1 year ban unless you can go to court and convince them that losing your licence will have a serious impact on you and your family ie. you're a sales rep and if you lose your licence then you lose your job. If you manage to do this, you'll instead get hit with a whacking great big fine.

You normally lose it when you get up to 12 points, but you can appeal against that.
I have heard about 1 guy who had 13 points, but he was allowed to keep his licence as he needed to drive for work.
