You said "you're sure he knows" unless you've told him in those words, guys don't pick it up! If you haven't told him, then he probably isn't playing, he comes to you for comfort.

He's not playing with you. He just doesn't care how you feel. If you tell him the next time that you aren't taking him back you'll see how fast things change. Why don't you try dating someone else. You'd be surprised how much better you can be treated.

My current boyfriend did this alot, and i just ended asking why do you date these girls who keep urting you? he never did answer and i was like i know i would never hurt you if i had you, then he looked at me and i asked him out and he said yes!!!!!!!!!!! im sure he wants you but he needs to know you wont hurt him like the others. tell him

no, he sees you as a good friend that he can come to w/ his problems, guys do that to all girls, which makes the girls think the like them and they get in to trouble that way.
