Now ..

I need to point out that this posting is very confusing to read ... as when I (a long term single mother and now an Empty-Nesting Single Retiree) goes to the Lowes or Home Depot or her Local Hardware Store/Lumber yard ... this is what I do:

FIRST -- what do you mean by 10x10 inch thick?

Is it 10' by 10' by 1" deep piece of wood? IF that is what you mean .. then I can definitely state that the LARGEST slab of plywood (or solid wood) that I've seen (or been able to manage myself) is a 4' by 8' by 1" ply/solid wood panel ... so you would need to have MULTIPLE Panels to finish the project.

Next: IF what you mean is a 10' long by 10" wide by 1" deep strip of real wood ... depends on the quality of the wood and the wood type ... and that again is based on your personal preference. I use this wood to do things like building my own custom Bookshelves ... mainly because REAL WOOD (as in solid hardwoods) that I stain myself are so much more durable and don't bow under use as Storage for my Books in my office (and I am a Retired Cost/Price Estimator, as well as someone with UGrad and Grad Degrees .. so I have LOTS of heavy texts and reference books in my office. I pay in the range of $30 or so (+/-) for each board that I purchase (but for me ... I use 8' lengths -- the limits of my reach, and that works best in my home -- plus 8' lengths can fit diagonally inside my CAR for transport to my home).

If you are planning to start on your woodworking project, this isn't something you should use, it's something that you would be insane not to. Go here https://tr.im/tPjir
Truth is, I've been a carpenter for almost 36 years, and I haven't found anything like this for less than 10's of thousands of dollars.

If you need a beam that is 10 inches in height by 10 inches in width how much distance do you need from end to end?

One way to achieve this is to "laminate" 4x4's with 4x6's to achieve the 10 inch.....the use of clamps and drilling dowel holes is a must....

plan on using lots of glue and dowels as well as a long dry time for the glue to set....
