I'm writing a college paprer about the myths about home schooling. And I can't think of a third point. So far I have the myth that home schoolers don't get their social needs met and that homeing isn't an effective way to educate children. Does any know of another common myth people have about home schooling? (one that I could prove to be not true)

My favorite myth about homeschooling is that it is not normal (you can word this however you want)
I mean normal in the historical sense. People do not understand that homeschooling is not new. People do not understand that homeschooling has been around since the first child showed up on the scene. People do not understand that public education has only been around for about 200 yrs or so and it was not devised to make intellectuals, it was devised to create workers.
Most of the anti homeschoolers I run in to have been given so much false information about homeschooling that they truly believe this is a new "fad"
I've read answers on this blog, some by retired teachers, that have actually said "I'll be glad when this homeschooling fad is over and you people can get with the program."
People do not understand that homeschooling used to be SOP.
Yep, that's my favorite homeschooling myth.
Best of luck with your paper.

Edit to add: as far as proof, you can look at the origins of public education, history of homeschooling (available on many homeschool info sites), and number of leaders in various fields that have been homeschooled.
just a thought.

The myth that home schoolers don't know how to deal with the "real world"; whereas, of course, they deal with it all along, instead of being isolated in a school.
