I hate lime in my beer. I am Hispanic and live in TX where there are lots of Hispanics. The whole lime thing really gets to me. Yes it is true that Mexican beers usually come with a lime, but that was in Mexico. In places like Cancun there are lots of open air shacks which sell food and beer. Flies are ever present and they would put limes in the bottles so they wouldn't land on them. When tourist see a Mexican beer they associate that lime. It is only there for decorative and hygienic purposes. Beer should taste good as is. There are some really good and bad beers made everywhere and to each his own.

Fruit in beer in general is a practice that is completely against the whole point of beer. The flavors in a well brewed beer should not be comprimised by the extreme additives that fruit supply. Somewhere, a brewmaster has spent years to perfect his recipe down to the degree of boiling, ounce of barley, and minute of fermenation. All for what? To have someone add a lime because "it makes it taste better"? To each his/her own, but you wouldn't catch someone squeezing a lemon wedge into thier chardonnay, and beer takes just as much to produce in terms of time and effort.

On a side note, the only reason that some beers market towards the addition of fruit to thier beverage is because while standing alone, thier product is garbage. Try a corona without a lime sometime and see how tropical that tastes.

I want to reiderate that each person has thier own prefences, and they can do whatever they want if they like it, but personally, i think adding fruit to beer is similar to crushing blackberries into your glass of cabernet sauvignon.

Originally Mexican people put lime or lemon in the neck of their beer bottles because the acidity stopped flies from landing on the mouth.

There's no need for me to waste an emotion like "hate" on a lime, but I don't drink beer that needs fruit. Any true brewer would be mortified if you added fruit to his beer.

because of the fact they are rubbish "beers" and so the lime is the only high quality element in there! The lime and the ice chilly spin the two do a similar element that's to mask the rotten style of the chilled fizzy rice water that's occurred as beer! that's clearly not required in genuine beers including Fuller's ESB and Adnams Broadside.

I don't understand why you would drink it if you have to add something to make it taste better. My good friend always says "Don't fruit the beer!" And we are both big beer-bellied guys who are known to toss a few back. If the beer doesn't taste good too you, try another. There are a million different kinds. I like brown ales like Moose Drool. Find what is good and leave the fruit to the healthy people...

not always.. certain spanish beers like corona or dos XX flavors are enhanced with lime similar to tequilla... however some lagers and ales do not need it.. some beers like blue moon are good with a slice of orange...

Yes.

I don't like any fruit in my beer, even Belgian White Ale, which is supposed to be served with an orange wedge, or hefe weisen, which is supposed to be served with a lemon wedge.

My theory is that if you have to put something (anything) in your beer to make it taste "better" then you need a different beer.
