The real question is, "Was Jesus a made-up character to help embellish the story of Jesus?"
Good question, though. People argue.

I want you to think carefully about this fact. Would you think that every single item that was in existence 2,000 years ago would have been documented and preserved? And since it was part of the Roman's method of punishment, why would that cross be preserved? The cross was most likely reused as crucifixions were a regular occurrence in those days. Just because a person cannot show you the physical evidence from 2,000 years ago, how does that make it that it was fake?
It sounds like you don't consider the evidence in the Bible as basis for historical fact, so why would you think that the Roman authorities would have preserved the items from a punishment or in Judas' case, a suicidal scene?

The robe or nails or pieces of the cross do not prove Christ's existence. By this logic you can question whether pretty much every person from the bible ever existed. Either you believe what it says is true, or you don't.

Well of course he was there to embellish the story of Jesus. There may or may not have been a small cult based around a man called Jesus in first century Palestine/Israel, one of his followers may have been called Judas, what is definitely the case is that Jesus was not 'the son of god'.

Things do get ruined and destroyed over 2000 years you know...maybe that's what happened with the robe and nails...and just b/c someone can't find a body doesn't mean that person didn't exsist. There are many people who have lived, but no one can find the body.

No respected theologian disputes his existence. There is no remains of Jesus either or Pilate, or Paul, or Plato, or Homer and so on.....We can't even find Dave Crockett.

There is no particular reason to doubt the existence of any of the disciples. What is doubtful is their actions and motivations. Judas, in particular, seems to have his life constructed rather than described in the gospels. On the other hand, the gospel of Judas seems to be more of a counter-fiction rather than a true description.

I believe there is little about christianity that has NOT been embellished. It's all been stolen from pagan belief systems.
