You have gotten some good suggestions. What worked for me (after chewing my nails off and on for 30+ years) was to get false nails, which were really too thick to bite through, in order to let my own nails grow out. I still have a bit of a problem if I get a rough nail, so I always carry an emery board in my purse for quick fixes. I have also used some of the nasty tasting stuff in the past, but on me it seemed to wear off quickly, so the taste was only bad for a few hours. If you opt for that first, be sure to have it handy so that you can reapply as needed. One more thing you might do, is figure out how long it is going to take to grow your nails out and then buy tickets for something expensive and fabulous where you will want your hands to be perfect. That adds a bit of incentive. (Mine was a high school reunion with people I hadn't seen in years. I had been the typical nerd--straight A student with glasses, no nails, and no dates--and wanted to show them that I was a nerd no longer.)

You have to really want to stop biting your nails to stop for good! Otherwise it just wont happen! I tried nail polish which tasted funny but that never worked for me (worked for my friends though). Otherwise you could have false nails put on so you cant get to your nails for a while then hopefully you will have broken the habit!

Other than have braces fitted on your teeth which stopped me in my tracks!! Theres a disgusting tasting stuff (I think it's called 'Control It') that you can paint on. Or you could try sucking one of those sugar free lollies all the time!
