okay, i am graduating in may with my degree as a high school history teacher. i really need to move and get out of pa right now and i want to go to nyc. if i find a teaching job that could be a plus too. anyway, where would be a good, decent place that i could move to? also how much would it cost to live there? i will be living by myself and i have never ever lived alone before so any tips would help. thanks!

Queens is prob the safest quietest and most accessible boro. Rent varies from $1000-$1200 a month. You might be better off sharing when you first move to make it easier on you. A 3 bed house runs at around $1500, which is only $500 pp. Areas such as Maspeth, Kew Gardens, Forest Hills, Middle Village are all nice areas which provide easy access (Subway) to Manhattan if you need it.
My girlfriend is a catholic school teacher and even though the money is a lot better, she would shoot herself before she'd work in a public school. These kids are assholes on a good day. But even in a public school the money isn't great. Be prepared to take on a second job if you're moving here to make ends meet. Especially if your mind is set on living alone.

Best of Luck!

Try Brooklyn or Queens. Parts of the Bronx are nice, but the Bronx is more urban than Brooklyn or Queens. As far as Queens, look at apartments in Bayside or the good parts of Flushing. As far as Brooklyn, try anything on Ocean Avenue. You could find great places to live, but you are going to have to shop around. And just remember, the NYC public school system is not Disney World. And teachers in the system have a lot bigger egos than Goofy.

all depends. what's your price range? and how much of a commute do you want? also, would you be willing to live in Queens, Bklyn, or The Bronx? all depends on a lot. Need more info...
