people are telling me their athiests and just claiming to be religious....

Wow this is hard.... oh wait, not a problem, if you can sit back and really believe that just because a person claims to be a Christian, but disproves that claim by their beliefs and actions, and you still believe you have found something to debate, then you are lacking depth.
These quotes are not from true believers at all, they are from people who have risen to the height of hypocrisy. If you can not delineate between true Christians, and the liars, then your research is flawed.

As a question,I'm afraid this one won't get much for intelligence.In the first place,the central message of Christianity is LOVE.So it's all very well to SAY you're a Christian,but if you do'nt obey the Scriptures then you are not.What you don't seem to undrestand is that there's a difference between SAYING and BEING.If someone says he is an atheist but then tries to have creationism taught in schools,you would never believe he's an atheist,right?So now if somone says they're a Christian but goes and commits un-Christian deeds,you would think you'd have the intelligence to realise that they are NOT truly Christian.But obviously you've allowed your prejudice to blind you.Well,your loss anyway.

People have used religion as an excuse for violence since the beginning of recorded history. However, people don't need religion to be violent. Josef Stalin and Mao Tse Tung each did a pretty good job of killing people who opposed them and both were anti-religious.
