It'll take a little longer and be more tiring, but I'm all for making things the traditional way. I'm certain the first person who made hummus didn't have a blender :P

You dont need a blender just some good old fashioned elbow grease. Your chick peas should already be soft either by boiling from dried or draining if out of a tin. You can use either your mortar & pestle or press everything through a fine sieve, either way is delicious. Enjoy

To make hummus the right way you have to emulsify the garlic and the chick peas to a smooth paste. ( hard to do the chick peas in a mortar)And than again alot of people like chunky peanut butter so go for it the flavor will be the same.

Sure you can! When you go to emulsify, just do that in a separate bowl with a whisk, then blend it in to the beans. It'll be great.
