I want to make some homemade hummus/hummous,but all the recipes have say put the ingredients in a blender,I don't have a blender.Surely I could still make this by hand,I have a mortar and pestle so could I do it in this or even in just a big bowl and make sure I mash it all good and proper. What do you think?

It'll take a little longer and be more tiring, but I'm all for making things the traditional way. I'm certain the first person who made hummus didn't have a blender :P

Good luck!

You dont need a blender just some good old fashioned elbow grease. Your chick peas should already be soft either by boiling from dried or draining if out of a tin. You can use either your mortar & pestle or press everything through a fine sieve, either way is delicious. Enjoy

To make hummus the right way you have to emulsify the garlic and the chick peas to a smooth paste. ( hard to do the chick peas in a mortar)And than again alot of people like chunky peanut butter so go for it the flavor will be the same.

I think the mortar and pestle would make some nifty hummus.

Sure you can! When you go to emulsify, just do that in a separate bowl with a whisk, then blend it in to the beans. It'll be great.
