Is it really illegal to sell mixed dogs for over $200?? she wasnt too specific on wether it was non papered dogs, or just.. whatever.. but thats my question.. oh and.. if it IS illegal, does that apply to the so-called "designer breeds"?

lol, texas! this 'friend' isnt really a friend. shes more like a friend of a friend.. who ive met like.. twice. I didn't really believe her, so i came on here.. lol
I think it should be illegal for anyone (even breeders of purbreeds) to make a prafit of more than $100 off of each dog, though. thats just my opinion.. :| lol

As an owner and past breeder of purebred dogs, it may not be illegal, but I think it is immoral. I think it is OK to charge something for mixed breed dogs if they have been cared for and given shots and I think people feel if a person genuinely wants a pet and will take care of it that they are willing to pay something.

It is not illegal here where I live in Canada, and in my particular province.. I cant say with certainty that there are no laws elsewhere. But logically I doubt there would be, however it is stupid that people even buy mixed breeds or mutts for that much money.. dont get me wrong I love mutts and have 3 of them but I never paid anything for them, and I would have refused to do so if asked. Today I saw a flyer at my local mall advertising "terripoos" as they called them and were said to be 3/4 poodle 1/4 scottie and they wanted 600 dollars for these pups... I couldnt believe it so ignorant, as if you would pay for a mutt... let alone 600 bucks. Better to go to a shelter and pay a fee that is worth something to get a mutt that already has its shots and is altered. Purebred dogs are worth lots of money only because of all the trouble and care the breeder takes to ensure they are healthy and come from a good temperment. BYBs selling mutts and mixes dont care they just want to get some money from all the designer breed hype nowadays.

Obligatory disclaimer: This is not legal advice and without knowing the state and locality in which you live, this is an educated guess. Having said that, while it is conceivable that a state or municipality might pass such a law, to my knowledge none have done so. So, no -- it is not illegal. I'm quite curious as to where your friend got that idea from. There's nothing illegal about selling a dog, whether it's a purebred or a mutt (a/k/a mixed breed) for more than $200.

No, it isn't illegal..but a darn shame people will buy mixed breeds or designer dogs as some call it. I do not know what is in people head that they will pay money for a mutt and as long as they do people will breed them. You can't fight stupid. and lol@ Texas I really thought that was funny lol

I think it's an out right shame....I work at a pet store (we'll leave the name out) and we sell "designer dogs" or mutts...and we have a Puggle..(pug/beagle mix) and we want $13,000 for her..we also have a Teddy Bear (bichon shih-tzu mix) and it's $22,000. i would not pay that amount of money for a dog...Shelter dogs are the best pets, there are so many who get put down cuz they don't find good homes right away.

If a person wants to sell something, that is legal to sell, the only price set is the value that is placed and agreed upon by the seller and the buyer.
I could sell a sunflower seed for a bogzillion monies, if I could I would. Peoples would not buy my sunflower seeds because they have Salt on them or because they can get a WHOLE bag of them for $.99 at the Wal-Marts.

Not illegal. "Designer breeds" are mixed breeds and they can sell for thousands of dollars! In fact some shelters have their adoption fees at about or over 200 dollars and most of their dogs are mixed breeds. I guess its just what people are willing to pay!

There is no ' mixed breed ' dog that is papered.. It isn't illegal to sell a mutt for over $200, it is unethical, but it isn't illegal.

Not illegal-but unethical I think--Shelters should make pets affordable so people can afford to give them a good home!
