It's best to do it face-to-face. Over the phone or through a message is a very good way to make the other person feel like you never cared about them enough to talk with them in person. It has happened to me, and it hurts.

Well, if you met by phone and developed your relationship by phone, then YES. If not, every relationship needs a face to face meeting when breaking up. If this person really cares about you, they need an explanation and a phone call will hurt forever. It is one of those things you will never forget. And it is not fair. Be sweet and direct and that person will always admire you. I broke up the wrong way once, and Ilived to regret it. A few years laater, she was everything I wanted and I loved heer, but she would not get near me. Don't burn your bridges behind you.

Extremely bad - I had a guy do that once. He was too scared to face the fact that he wanted to end the relationship. I'm actually glad he did it that way though in the end because it showed me what kind of person he really was.
