we took out the trans and while lowering the engine the distibuter made a cracking sound while it was pressed up against the firewall can this have an effect on the injector

i own a shop and it may have damaged the control module in the distributor,also a bad pressure regulator will cause this to happen,but all of this is still controlled by the distributor,so it possible you may have damaged it some,on these i usually take the distributor out on them if I'm going to drop the transmission,then it don't get damaged,you might want to try a good used distributor in it,and see if that helps it,good luck i hope this helps.

Dodge has had multi point fuel injection since 1994, so first get the original system put back on.
You probably broke the distributor cap letting the engine down in back. That is the most common problem ever since the distributor was put in back on many cars.

Sure can.
The computer is getting a bad signal as far as engine speed from the ignition.
