I have frontline. If I put this on him will it kill the tick now?

You can actually try and remove the tick yourself. Strike a match, blow it out, and press the head of the match against the tick. The heat usually makes them back out of the dog's skin. This is known as "burning [the tick] out." Be careful not to burn your dog, of course. And once the tick backs out, you can capture it with a strip of duct tape.

And yes, I know it stinks when the tick gets burned, but what DOESN'T stink when it burns? (There are no poisonous fumes, so don't worry.)

If you're not feeling very confident about this, though, your dog will be fine until the vet visit.

Did you already have frontline on your dog? If you did you don't want to overdose your dog. If it is time to put frontline on your dog go ahead and put it one him. It may take a day to kill the tick. Let the vet remove the tick so you don't leave the ticks head in the dog.

I have 9 dogs and remove all our own ticks. I use a q-tip with bleach on it. I put the bleach on the q-tip and put it on the tick and wait about 2 minutes and take a tweezers and remove the tick. It takes out the head and all. I then flush it down the toilet. You can still take the dog to the vet to make sure you got it out but it will work. We live in a rural area where there are lots of ticks and we remove lots of ticks. That's what our vet recommended some years ago. We've always used it and it's always worked for us. Good luck!!!!

Frontline does not instantly kill the ticks- but once in their system for a day or two they WILL all fall off. The only danger in pulling the tick off yourself is the possiblity of the head being stuck in the dog. But he should be A-ok till you get him into the vet!

Yes it will just take the tick off of your dog. I use frontline on all my animals and it works wonders. If you still feel the need to take your dog to the vet then you can. Frontline will kill any and all ticks and fleas on your dog.

use frontline according to directions. meanwhile get some tweezers, preferably with narrow tips or points, and some alcohol. put alocohol on the place where the head is in the dog's skin and then gently use the tweezers-you don't want to spear or injure the dog with them-by grasping the tick close to the head and pulling the little beast out. the alcohol should have loosened the little bloodsucker, but take care to get out the head. you can treat the spot with neosporin or hydrogen peroxide. watch it to be certain there is no excessive swelling or infection (a little redness and puffiness is normal-you just took a parasite off of him).

I have two dogs that each had a tick when I found them (strays) and I tried the burning with a match technique. That didn't work for me. So my mother in law suggested smearing vaseline on it. Within a moment it's supposed to back out because it gets suffocated. Perhaps that combined with burning it with a match worked, because I was able to pull it out! I don't think it's good to let the tick stay inside, perhaps you could go to a 24 hour animal clinic that could help!

Don't use a match to remove the tick, it's proven that it doesn't work. Don't use motor oil to remove a tick, it doesn't work.
Use your frontline and see the vet if the tick doesn't drop off. If you don't know how to remove it properly, then you should get it done by someone who knows how to do it properly.
