I am Canadian and for a while, I thought we were similar to Americans until I worked in USA for 2 years. I was very very happy to come back home.
For one thing, Canadians don't invade countries for their oil. We are not capitalists. We are more socialist. We express caring for other human beings in a very different way. In USA, there are very rich people and very poor people. Here the difference between rich and poor exist but it is not so big as in USA.
We are much more tolerant towards other cultures and other religions. Homosexuals are allowed to get married. French and English are official languages. Not in USA. In USA, military is a big component of the culture. Not here. Not as much violence here. In USA, guns are very very important. In Canada, the gun culture is banned.
Freedom of speech is more respected in USA then here. There are many other differences but those are the ones that comes to my mind. USA and Canada, both have good and bad things. I think the best country would be a blend of both.
In terms of culture, I guess we can say that we are closer then comparing us to Arabs. Australia and New Zealand are neighbours, but I am sure they are very very different culturally.

Canada is generally safer than America, especially in the cities. We say 'eh' a lot and it is colder than America. Hockey takes precedence over baseball, basketball, or football. Canada is saturated with the American media and it puts a strain on our identity. Canadians go out of their way to separate themselves from Americans, only because we have so many similarities with our neighbors to the South.

Not much from America. I would say their larger cities are safer and cleaner than ours, and they have great cultural centers like Toronto and Vancouver. Some downfalls I would say was expensive for food, drinks and other things, partly due to a crappy exchange rate. I think the US and Canada are extremley similar in most aspects, but there are a few differences.

One of the key differences is that Canadians aren't as stridently religious as Americans. You'll learn at some point whether they are catholic/anglican/ whatever, but they won't preach to you and neither is it a common topic of conversation. Canadians are also more tolerant of differences, especially in the larger cities.

It's very cold there, so people tend to stay indoors and get very drunk. Sometimes they stumble outside to find a moose to get busy with.
