Right now I feed my dog Science Diet dry dog food. But due to the recall of the canned dog food I'm a little worried about using it. Plus I've been told now that it wasn't a great food to begin with. I have considered using Canidae. They are not manufactured by the company that has all the recalled foods. Is this a good choice?

It is an excellent dog food in comparison to what you are using. Despite poopular beliesf Science Diet is one of the foods on the commerical market. Candae is more of a holistic blend and the ingredients are 100 times better. Science Diet uses several preseravtives that are carinogen and theie meat is of a low grade plus they use alot of wheat and corn which your dog does not need. They need meat. No matter what the first ingredient listed should always be meat, and the next 3-4 should all be protein. You never ever want a meat by product or rendered meat, and there should never be the preservatives BHA BHT and Ethoxquin. All are banned from human food and all are carcinogens. Candae is an excellent food so is Innova, Wellness, Natural Instinct, Eagle Pak, and Raw Instinct.

It is a great food I have been feeding it along with a raw meat and bones for a little over four years. I was actually feeding science diet but one of my dogs had food allergies so bad he was going bald and getting hot spots. I started out feeding raw because of the allergies but sometimes I got lazy so I needed a food without corn, wheat, soy, beet pulp, beef or by-products and I found Canidae. My dogs do excellent on it.

Canidae is a high quality food, and very good for some dogs. The problem I see with Canidae is that they call themselves an all life stages formula. Which means you can feed it to puppies, adults, and senior dogs. So because it is all life stages, it has to have enough protein, calories, and fat to sustain a puppy through growth. All that protein, calories, and fat can be bad for an overweight dog, or can cause an inactive adult or senior dog to gain weight rapidly. So you really need to look at the activity level of your dog before you make that decision. Canidae is a great food for puppies and high active adult dogs.

Canidae is a wonderful choice. It is a good quality food with fantastic ingredients.

In a good quality food there is no problem with an all life stage formula. It is as appropriate for puppies as it is seniors.Canidae has been thoroughly researched and developed.

The pet food recall was from products supplied to the company from outside sources.

Canidae is one of the top of the line holistic foods. They have no affiliation with Menu Foods for any of their products. You should definitely switch over from Science Diet. Be sure to switch over gradually so as not to cause diarrhea. Good choice of a new food!

When you think about it, what does your dog need from its food in order to be healthy?

Today our pets have a wide variety to meet their tastes and needs and we have our choice of what kind of food we can choose to feed them. Despite the variety, pet foods usually fall into three major categories. These categories are: Grocery store foods, these types of dog and pet foods are usually found in grocery stores and mass marketed retailers and can contain lower quality, less expensive ingredients. The second category is "premium dog foods," which can also be found in grocery's stores but are also found in pet stores and through your local veterinarian's office. These types of foods are usually made from some higher quality ingredients and are usually made evident by the expense of the food. Some of these pet foods though can contain lower quality ingredients that you aren't aware of. The third and final category is homemade dog food.More and more people are beginning to make their dog's food at home rather than buying commercial formulas. Homemade dog food doesn't contain any substances that could possibly be harmful to your dog's health such as artificial coloring and artificial flavors.

Another reason to make homemade dog food is the preservatives added to the commercial dog food. Homemade dog food has the benefit of optimum freshness without preservatives.

There are dogs that would greatly benefit from a homemade diet. Some dogs who suffer from allergies that cause severe itching may find relief once switched from commercial dog food to a homemade diet.

Processed dog food is a relatively new product and scientists don't fully understand the differences between commercial food and a diet of fresh food. There may be problems occurring in a dog's health because he is being given food that has had the nutrients cooked out of it and then sprayed back on.

Would you like to prolong the quality and length of your dog's life by 135%?You should keep your dog healthy by homemade dog food.

Canidate is a middle of the road dog food, try blue seal life styles or evolve dog foods. They are really top notch. If you want a comparasion of foods I have a link on my website. burdicklabradors.com helpful links page. By the way Science diet is reformulating its foods and is getting rid of much of its line. I know that because I work with feed stores for my dogs supplies and used to used science diet small puppy bite for my little ones but now I use evolve puppy.

It is a very good food if it is avaible in your area. It also comes in dry formula. It is a bit expensive but if you have only 1 dog then it is worth the price.
