looks to me as if you need to purchase the windows software because someone has put in a false serial number so they did not have to pay for it.

if you are 100% sure that it is a genuine windows, you can contact microsoft, or your computer supplier to fix this problem

Microsoft has been tightening up on software piracy for some time and now has in place a system that tells them when a receiving PC has legitimate software or not. Apparently, the automatic downloads triggered a response to Microsoft that makes them think your operating system is not legal. Therefore, they are asking that you notify them of the 25-digit product key code on your copy of Windows XP. You need to respond with that key code.

you are a victum of a counterfeit version of windows, there are some options to remove the dialog however, first system restore your pc to an earlier date, before the update (KB90 something) and turn updates on to download but let me choose when to install it, and when installing updates, uncheck the windows genuine, and it won't show up again. Now if you purchases windows, you're entitled to a legitament copy and without one, you cannot download windows explorer 7.

You are using the Pirated Windows XP version. When automatic updates are enabled, Windows will install an update called 'Genuine Windows Validation'. It checks for the original XP version else displays this counterfeit msg. You cant do anything now. You try applying patch for you windows xp. If it doesnt works reinstall your XP.
