I challenged Experian on this free credit report because it is misleading. You apply only to find at the end you need a credit card and it is NOT free. Besides who the hell checks their credit file every 30 days or needs to?!!.
Write to the agencies enclosing a £2 postal order and ask for your file. They have 7 days to send it. If anything is wrong and you ask them to remove/correct it, they have 28 days to respond. If they fail you can claim compensation and report them to the Financial Ombudsmen.
A suggestion is you could apply for a prepaid credit card. In this day and age, they are essential. I have one for such situations. Go to www.mycashplus.co.uk and apply for a prepaid Mastercard. No credit checks are done.

Not having a credit affects your credit rating for some reason - Infact the more debt you have (as long as you dont ever go into arrears even once) will increase you rating.

Missed payments are black marks
Missed direct debits

Also, if you apply for credit (loans, bank accounts etc.) and dont get them this also affects your credit !

Credit checks also show on your record.

You can send a cheque or postal order to these people.

You can get a copy of your credit report whether you have a credit card or not. You have a mortgage company so I would assume that you have a mortgage. Therefore, you have a credit history. You can get a copy of your report from Transunion, Experion or any other credit reporting agency. They will charge you for it but you can get it. Also, you are legally entitled to one free report per year. Write to them and ask them for it. They have to give it to you.

Didn't your mortgage company have a copy of your credit report and score? Usually they do and they can give your information about your credit score.

You can also try Equifax, Transunion or MyFICO. We offer unsecured personal loans up to $100K but you do need a credit score of 700 & up to qualify.

the reason you have a poor credit rating is because you do not have a credit card, a credit card allows the bank to see that you can use it responsibley without one they don't know how responsible you are.
