Recheck the belt tension. It may be too loose and is slipping. If you have a friend start your car while you watch and listen under the hood, you may see what's happening.

Well with out knowing what year or make car it is this will be a shot in the dark. Did you check to make sure your starter is not staying ingaged too long? It may also be a valve train noise. You should have someone start the car while you listen to the area its coming from or vice versa. Usually alternator and alike will continue to be noisy and it will usually be a squeel not a grinding noise.

I've had the same problem for about a year. I have taken it to 4 different shops (including the local Ford Dealership) and no one can tell me what is wrong. They say there is nothing loose on the car anywhere and power steering is good. The best answer I can get is a possible broken front exhaust pipe bracket, which I am having inspected on Monday....I'll let you know how it goes.

Depending on the grinding noise ....

Check to see if your power steering fluid is low.

It could also be that your power steering fluid is very dirty and needs to be replaced, or add a liquid sealer to it.

Maybe it is a wheel bearing gone bad.

... Now if it is a C.V. joint, it will make a "cluck cluck" sound.

... Now if it is the belt, it will make an unbearable squeeling noise.

If the noise is coming from the wheels, then greater effective than probable the brake pads or drums desire changing. If the noise is coming from the kit field or front diff the must be placed on on the two of the two considered one of them.

Anyone else care to take a stab in the dark? Not enough information. Take it to a mechanic before something breaks.

it sounds like the power steering pump is making the noise check to see if the fluid is full
