There are two trains of thought concerning the location of the Ark of the Covenant.
One is that it is located in Northern parts of Africa in a closely guarded Temple.
The other is that it is in a secret room under the Temple mount.
Interestingly enough the Jewish people have been, over the past several years, been putting together the items needed for operation of the Temple.
The tapestries, tables altars, clothing and animals of purity for sacrifice.
They have also trained four hundred young men in the proper daily operations of the Temple.
The cornerstone has been cut and has actually been attempted to lay it, however they have been turned back each time.
The final piece would be the Ark of the Covenant.
All this is in preparation for the coming of the Messiah.

The real Ark is found in Revelation 11:19
As for the earth-built Ark, there is some rumors.
I talked with the head of the Temple Institute in Jerusalem. They say they have it. He said that they will not make it public because it would cause a violent upsurge from you know who.
Now usually I take such statements with a grain of salt. However, I read an article by someone who interviewed another who had seen it as well. The description they gave was very interesting.

It is not on the earth.
It is in heaven.
Rev 11:19 And the temple of God which is in heaven was opened; and the ark of His covenant appeared in His temple, and there were flashes of lightning and sounds and peals of thunder and an earthquake and a great hailstorm.

Apparantly one man guards the Ark and its kept in an underground house like structure somewhere in a desert, I saw it on the discovery channel.

This is just moo. I think it's still in a secret room under the Dome of the Rock. I think the one that went to Ethiopia was a fake.

The Ethiopian Orthodox Church claims to have it and that does seem likely. That is what w84thebomb is talking about.
