My answers most often come when I am meditating...I think of it as listening. I try to empty my mind of all thoughts and wants (and prayers) and I ask God to fill it. I think if you would give it 20 minutes a day (uninterrupted) you will find some answers.

P.S. Get baptized...Jesus did.

To Punter: The word Christian is used in the book of Acts. It says that believers were first called Christians in Antioch.

You are a follower of CHRIST but not yet a believer. GOD does not always answer our prayers the way we want when we want. The answer will come in HIS time and it will be right and you will know it. Keep praying the HOLY SPIRIT will convict your heart to accept JESUS as your SAVIOR when the time and your heart are ready. All you have to do is accept what is freely offered. The price for your sin was paid long ago through the blood of GOD's only begotten SON JESUS. Just talk to GOD like a father or friend tell HIM all your hearts desires and all your worries HE is a good father and HE will hear you.

So, why, are you an unbaptised Christian?? Even Jesus allowed John to baptise Him. Thus, it is a very important ritual. Which has been explained by Paul in his letters.

But, as a baptised Christian, I too, have gone through times when my prayers 'stuck to the ceiling' (btw we all have...it's very common). I think it means that we are to 'face life' and out problems on our own (knowing that God has our back, of course). And the reason God wants us to do that is: He doesn't want a bunch of weak, fickle people as His people. He wants psychological firmness, emotional balance and everything that is the opposite of a 'dependent personality disorder'. Thus, you may be on a plateau of maturity; where you have evolved to a point that it's time to develop more of "the unique YOU". I hope this points you toward searching deeper and relief from those feelings....They are not pleasant.

Qu, Do you belong to a church, and what denomination is it?
You can pray all the time not just when you have to, God is your source.
ACTS 2.29 Peter said "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."
When Jesus was baptised the Holy Spirit came upon him like a dove.
Answer - What are you missing - The Holy Spirit. When you receive the holy spirit your prayer life fill change. Ask the holy spirit into your life and be born again of the spirit into Christ.
I am a Pentecostal, I attend an Elim Church - get yourself to the nearest one and see for yourself. Pray, believe and do not doubt.

Why do you need to "feel" something when you pray?
What are you expecting to feel?

When I pray I feel like I'm talking to myself but I know God hears my prayers because He answers many of them.

This is where faith comes in to play. In fact I prayed for three years to the Lord and felt I didnt feel anything. but what I was lookn for was beyound what my mind could handle. He was moving in ways I never knew so yes at times it felt what is the purpose of this when it feels I stand alone here on my knees. Believe me when I say. There is not one thought from your heart that is not caught up by the Lord. Infact he is there by your side. Give all your heart. Surrender all to him. Things that hurt you . Things that scare you. As if you were talkn to your best friend . You will see the difference

First, get baptized. It is in obedience to God. Have faith that He hears you. Ask for His will to be done and not your own. Pour your heart out to Him. You have to be in the spirit when you pray to Him. Read your bible everyday and you will be filled with His spriit.

Before I pray...I think about what I am compared to God...which is so very small and undeserving of His Amazing Grace. I humble myself before Him and then I pray for my family and others, then myself.

Please pay no attention to those whose answers imply that there is no God...I pity them one day when they have to come face to face with Him...He is very real and all-knowing. They are living for now and for this world...which will one day be gone...We should focus on our eternal home...we are only passing through this world. Pray with your heart...

well, the reason you feel you're talking to yourself is because your ARE talking to yourself. deities are just the projections of the human Id and Ego onto the vast unknowable, a kind of mass self aggrandizement that makes being merely one of billions of barely evolved insignificant primates seem important. "God" is like a star, an ocean or a hurricane. you can pray at it all you want but your beseechings and puny desires have no effect on it.

You ARE just talking to yourself when you pray. Sorry to break it to you, but there is NO God!
