Any age 18 and over. At the point that you are a legal adult if you want one and feel that it's right your body is finally yours under the law. But on a maturity level I'd say whenever you feel ready for it in your life. If you aren't sure I would say don't get it because your chances of regretting are higher than if you wait until you stop changing your mind about what you want and where and when and all of that stuff. Wait until you are dead set on getting it and have everything hashed out in your mind.

I don't think there is a 'right' age as such... Obviously there's a legal minimum age in most places, (mostly 18) and anyone wanting to get a tattoo ought to be older than that.
You're legally old enough, then, so whether you want one or not is up to you. But I'd say you're better waiting until you are sure; it's going to be permanent, after all, so it warrants spending plenty of time thinking about. There's no particular age attached to this; it'll vary from person to person.
This may mean waiting a long time. It could be useful to you to experiment with temporary body art to see how you feel about it before committing to anything more permanent.
Hope this helps!

I don't think there's a right age to get a tattoo. I think it all depends on the maturity level of the individual. For example, at 20 years old you may think its cool to get a tattoo where its fully visible to the public. At 25 when you are seriously applying for jobs or transitioning into a career you may realize that was the dumbest decision ever made. Employers DO NOT like visible tattoos. So if you're going to get a tattoo be smart about it. Get it in a spot that it cannot be seen by the public unless you purposely show it. Think long term and think about what's cool to you now may not be cool 5 years from now or even next year. Also, DO NOT GET ANYONE'S NAME TATTOOED ON YOU! I don't care how much in love you think you are with the person. You WILL regret it later. Lastly, do not tattoo your neck or face. :)

I waited to get my first one untill I was 25 and I'm glad I did. I picked out this peice of art for a tattoo at about 17 and just never had the money ... when I got back from Afghanistan this last year I looked through the book I had of flash I had saved. I realised that almost every peice of flash I was sooo adimant about getting I didn't really like. So, I had an artist that I have known for years design a peice for me. It's a dragon that reprisents strength, power, and determination. I also have three names with it. I will say this DO NOT GET A BF/GF HUSBAND/WIFE'S NAME ON YOU! It'll condem your relationship (superstition but everyone I know who's had it done has been split up within a year or two) I have my two deceased aunt's (year of birth and death) and my daughter's names (year of birth as well)

18+ at least around 18 you should at least be content with your life choices so far...But, if your turning 20 & still aren't sure than m/b you should continue to weigh your options... How about getting a henna tattoo of what you want {permanant tattoo} in the area you want it & see how you really feel about it that way if your not ready it washes away after a few days & you still got to see what it would look like without the pain plus the aggravation of not being able to {for lack of a better phrase} take it off...

The fact that you ask this question means you're not ready, but you're smart enough to know that. You're obviously mature enough to know that it's permanent, and therefore must be taken seriously. And don't believe everyone that says "18" as a stock answer. I got my nose pierced at 18 and still have it almost a decade later (meaning it was a good choice), but I wasn't ready for a tat until I was almost 21. In fact, it marked a special occasion in my life and is very special to me. All my tattoos are. I don't get them willy-nilly with stock crap, like skulls or butterflies. The bottom line is: DON'T get one until you're ready, and you'll know when you're ready. 18 is no magical number.

Eighteen! Legally. BUT to be smart about it, I would take a couple years(just 2-until you are twenty), so you can REALLY think about what you want and where you want it. Do research. Talk to different acclaimed artists and people who have body art. Make it something you can live with forever with deep meaning to you. Something you can be proud of.
And read "Chick Ink"-Edited by Karen Hudson. You can get it on Amazon.com. It is really just a compilation of stories of ladies with tattoos, but it is insightful.
Wish you all the best, Darlin!

if you're not sure then don't do it - no matter what your age is, but especially if you are under about 21, as your tastes will change over time and what you think is a cool and trendy mark now, you may well think is a cheap, trashy self-mutilation in 10 years.
