I might just be being paranoid but I feel like my Mum pays too much attention to my spots. Whenever one appears she's like 'oh, it has to be squeezed' and I know they shouldn't unless they have a big white head on them.. Then they grow into a huge scab and they wouldn't have done if she'd have just left them. I know I shouldn't but sometimes I pick them when I get really agitated with my work and she's now decided that if I pick one she's going to stop my pocket money for a month - FOR JUST PICKING ONE.
She also insists that she cleanses my face everyday and puts some Quinoderm on. I am 13 and I'm quite capable of looking after myself...
I guess she means well and she just wants me to not have any spots but do you think she's going the best way about it? What can I do (I mean about my Mum not the spots - I can sort those out)? I generally have a really good relationship with my Mum and I don't want to stop that but this is just really getting me down..

Communication is essential in all human relationships. Despite what some folks will tell you Mothers are human. Just tell her in the most loving way problem that she is causing you emotional pain and embarrassment and though you are perfectly willing to keep your face clean and take care of the problem she is hurting your feelings and frustrating you with her constant comments on the situation. Expect her to do the right thing but give her time to absorb your comments. The following are the basic rules to follow any time you have a grievance with anyone:

1. Say what you mean.
2. Mean what you say.
3. Don't say it mean.

tell your mum in the same way you posted this. Also tell her that diet (undiagnosed food allergies) are the cause of spots. If you figure out what you are reacting to, such as wheat, soy, eggs, dairy, nuts, etc. then your spots will clear up. Hydrogen peroxide is great for your skin. Spots should NEVER be squeezed, even if they have a white head-squeezing released the pus and bacteria back into the lower layers of the skin, and will cause future outbreaks. A hot compress, and a paste of baking soda and lemon will draw them to a head

Tell her what you've told us - and ask her to take you to a dermatologist; he/she is the only one who can determine which treatment is best for your acne.

It's your face, and, if it become scarred because of what's happening now, you are the one who will have to live with it.

Good luck!
