You COUNTED them? Veeeeeeery interesting. Call your vet for a dipping. Fog your house and yard, launder all linen. Don't scratch.

first get your dog in the tub and bathe him with Hartz Flea Foam Shampoo. Leave it on for 5-10 min. rinse and dry. The shampoo is a quick kill and also has a IGR in it and will kill the eggs. Run a flea comb through and remove any dead fleas or eggs. Watch for Tape worms in the dogs poop. It will look like rice. Wash any dog bedding, vacuum your home after treating the carpets with flea carpet powder. Then use the Hartz 4n1 spot on treatment down his back. I also recommend treating your yard area if you are in a home. This will be a bad Flea Season in the South, we had a light winter. Good luck, remember to treat all things, the dog,m home, and yard if at all possible. You will have to do this monthly. If you have a cat, they have them too. They can also ride in on Squirrels.

Go to your Vet's and get a good flea shampoo (as recommended by them) and also make sure you get a (preferably same brand) product to treat the house.
A lot of people don't realize that once you shampoo the dog, the fleas may be gone from him/her but they are in the carpet and will start biting the humans. They can jump a very long distance so you must spray your house, all along baseboards etc.
You can't just treat the dog - you have to treat the house as well. Sounds like you got them early.
Please don't just go to a pet store and get something on your own - your Vet knows your dog best, based on his/her health etc.

Sounds like you are doing everything right. You didnt say if your dog is an inside or outside...If he's inside those fleas that you found alive probably just havent died yet, but were on their way to dying. You probably have some fleas in your house, so get a fogger and set it off while you and your dog are away...it takes time to get rid of fleas.
Just keep putting the frontline and other on him and evently they will go away.

all dogs need to be given some sort of flea treatment routinely..... this usually consists of MORE than just a flea collar. You can get special medication from pet stores or vets, most consist of a liquid that you place on the back of their neck that is absorbed into their skin.
Fleas can carry and/or invite infection, and are very uncomfortable for a dog. They need to be removed. Furthermore, you can get very serious flea infestations in your house if you dont.
And since you arent looking after your dogs fleas, i really hope you have it on some regular heart worm medication.
If not, you really need to see a vet or someone about how to look after your dog properly.

For the house I recommend ENFORCER brand spray. It's not too expensive, I bought it at Lowe's. Three years ago my house was infested with fleas. I spent a ton of money on foggers, shampoo, powder etc that killed the adult fleas, but not the eggs. One flea can lay thousands of eggs!! For my dog and cat I use Frontline, it's EXCELLENT. I have never seen one flea or tick since starting it. Believe me, it's worth every penny. I also use Enforcer dog shampoo.

Give him a good bath to wash out the dead fleas, and use a flea-killing shampoo to kill the alive ones. Also, use a flea prevention spray. You can find these things at a Petco, Petsmart, etc. Probably even Walmart.

Pet supplies plus sells flea treatments either Frontline or
Advantage its about $50 but it works and is worth it, youll have that much wrapped up in tryin different flea collars or shampoos, of flea dip. If its still a pup you might want to make sure its old enough.

ok ..do not use hartz what so ever...it can give a dog seizures and make them act funny...i just got a rott in oct of last year and she was infested terrible..so my vet told me before i got my appointment to wash the dog in dawn dish soap...the original one..and let me tell u as soon as i put it on her in the tub those fleas were falling off left and right..i kept it on her for about 2-3 mins and by the time i washed her off they were gone..and then when i went to the vet he said its a good home rememdy to use when you dont want to pay and obscene amount of money for a flea dip..so try this and i guarentee it will work..and then take the dog to the vet for a topical flea solution..good luck

You need to take your dog to the vet. They can give you a product to prevent fleas. They can also give your dog a bath in flea shampoo to kill the fleas currently on your dog.

Frontline= miracle drug. HOWEVER, if you are in an area with relatively few ticks, Advantage may be a better option. Also, as far as natural remedies, I swear by garlic pills. Once the dog starts to emit that smell, the fleas want nothing to do with them!
