A product called Revolution works the best by far. You can get it w/o prescription from Australian companies online. You have to get rid of them ASAP or it will get worse!

Just go to a pet store and get some flea and tick shampoo. Follow the directions on the bottle and give him a bath. It will kill the live fleas and wash off the dead.
Then, go to your vet and buy some Frontline or some other Flea medication. Whichever one you like better. This will prevent your dog from getting more. It's a once a month treatment.
Also, I would suggest Heartworm medication too. As a preventative measure. (this has nothing to do with fleas, but you said you were new to dogs so it's some advice) :)

Dont panic, go to the pet store and buy som advantage , front line or revolution, advantix is the best but that by prescripion only they are topical flea and tick med. Follow the directions It takes about a week to fully drive off the fleas. You might also want to use some flea spray on the dogs bedding and his favorite places to plop. Then vacuum your carpets to get up all the dead fleas and flea eggs.

give him a flea bath and vaccuum all carpet couches and other things that the dog as come in contact with before letting him go near them after his flea bath and then start him with monthly pills that will prevent him fro getting fleas again. Empales are sentinal or advantage. should be about $10 a month.

We got fleas last fall. The vet is a good answer, but you might also want to bomb your house, you can get a kit at a pet store for like 20 dollars or something. Its kind of a nuisance to use, but it really helped us. Fleas are like roaches, they're really hard to kill, Mostly the eggs. They can live for up to 10 years, according to my vet. Great news, Huh?!

Go to the store and buy Frontline. I had the same problem about 3 weeks ago and I bought it...NO MORE FLEAS! I also washed him a week after putting the medicine on him with a de-flea, de-tick and de-egg wash. He is much better now.

it's best to take your dog to the vet cos you can buy a flea treatment that works (although it can be quite expensive). don't buy treatments from shops as they are not licensed to be as strong.
