What an OUTSTANDING question. This is happening world wide as I type. When God or Jesus or the Holy Spirit literally talk to someone, that person is deemed to be mentally ill. Keep in mind that they thought Jesus was so crazy that they hung him to a piece of wood, even though, he had NOT broken any laws of that time. The same that is happening today, also, happened thousands of years ago.

All of us have the ability to tune in and communicate with entities in the inner worlds. Perhaps this is why psychiatrists believe the line that separates the sane and the insane is very thin indeed.

While the sane person is in control of the communication and can differentiate the outer from the inner, the insane is either not in control or cannot differentiate which is what or both.

Believing that you ARE God would be a problem!

I'm sure someone did a survey of people who claimed that they had had an experience of the Holy Spirit and found that they were more emotionally stable than the average, but I'm afraid I don't have the reference

Absolutely Not !! All of Gods children pray and take their problems to God. Working with the Mentally Ill, I found that many prayed to God. Even in their troubled , un-happy lives, they turned to God to comfort them. Many were so Ill, that they could not. Your question shows that you have little insight on our beautiful Beliefs in the Lord. We are all of Gods children and for us , who are able to pray and spend time with God, is Wonderful. We don't talk to God in public, but when we are alone or in Church, we are able to pray together or take it all to God at night, before we go to sleep.
No we are not nuts ! Peace be with You.

I cannot see how talking to God can be anything other than beneficial.
I would see a form of madness in people dying of obesity whilst other people are starving to death.

Talking to him is perfectly acceptable, as long as its not like while your walking on the sidewalk or in a business meeting or something like that. But if you hear him, well then you probably have many, many problems. If you see him, you could be under the effects of hallucigens. But if you smell, feel (with your hand or something), or taste him, well, im not touching that one with a 20 foot pole.

Talking to GOD is prayer not mental illness. One can even talk to them self and answer them self as long as they don't say "huh".

I asked my Irish pal this one and he said that it depends entirely on whether it is the Catholic God you are talking to or the Protestant one.
