When it's a stranger, I say "thanks, have you had one too many?"
If I think, they just want to sleep with me, I say "Sure"
If you want to flirt back to the stranger, I say "thank you" and smile at him.
When it's a friend I laugh(in a complimented way) and say, "Thank you,"
When it's my boyfriend, I smile and tease him with a "are you mocking me?" smile and say "Not as much as you!", and he'll laugh and pretend to be embarassed. (and then sometimes we get the annoying "No, you are!", "no, you are!" repetition again and again.)

Say "thank you!" in a very flattered tone. That's about all you can say. Unless it's a girl and you think she's beautiful too. Then you say "thanks. I think you're beautiful too". That's the most polite way to respond to a compliment. =)

either try to come up with a compliment back at them or just try to look embarrassed guys like that they found the sweet spot in a girl

If you're a polite person, you can simply say "Thank you."
If you want to flirt back, you can say "Thank you, you're not so bad yourself."
If you want to reject them outright you can say "Too bad you're not."

it's a compliment. say, "Thank you"
or in a very cheerful and happy voice say, "oh thank you...that's so sweet"

If your self esteem is normal, you say "thank you".
If it is low, you pretend you didn't hear well so he repeats it!
