Like for instance if you follow the timeline from creation to Jesus to now you get about 13,000 years at the highest estimates. Yet we see stars 15 billion light years away. So at the VERY least the 7 "days" can't be literal.
But, how can you tell what else is literal, and what is metaphor or story?

Its about 6200 years
We have absolutely no idea how far the closest star is. That is all estimated based on the assumption of the speed of light and that it may be constant over time and in space. If Einstein was even close with his suppositions-then time is irrelevant. So-distance would be too.
The Bible says "there was evening and morning, the first day". Thats says there was a complete rotation of the earth=24 hours, and the definite article "the" for a specific day-the first one. There is no way that could mean anything else but one day, not a thousand or million years. Now, if the earth's rotation is slowing down-like scientist tell us. Then the days would have been shorter in the past not longer.
You take the literal part literal and the metaphorical part metaphorical. If it says that ".. his voice had the sound of many rushing waters", it is a metaphorical statement that meant just that. If it said that he rose from the dead-thats what it means. If it says the whole earth was covered with water to 20 feet over the mountains-it means exactly literally that. The historical narratives are to betaken factually. Some of the bizarre descriptions mean that the writer did not know what he was looking at-but that this is what it looked like to him. Its really not hard to distinguish once you take a serious look at it.

when you read genesis 1: 1 and 1:2, an unspecified amount of time transpired between God creating The heavens and the earth and then satan caused judgement to come upon it. for The light of the sun was there but satan did something to obscure the light of the sun and brought darkness on the earth and caused the world to be flooded by water which froze over because the sun was obscured(we call the ice age). Then in verse three the holy spirit over came this darkness that satan caused and dissolved the obscuration to allow the light to shine again and melted the ice and parted the waters and land to come forth again. This is when time dropped down from eternity.

The Bible was written and translated by man. Who really knows the truth about what is in the bible for sure. Just believe in God and follow with the ten commandments. They have been around more years than the revised Bible has. I read the old testament because it has been around longer also.

To God a day is like a 1000yrs and 1000yrs like a day (Peter).
7 is the number of completion, fulfillment, rest, etc.
Parables are representative of a deaper message.
What you need to ask God for is the Holy Spirit to guide you in your bible studies. When I first recommitted to God, I would ask God questions and God led me in the bible much. I purchased a Strongs Exhaustive to do word searches on bible words.

That's where it gets complicated, to understand it best would be to understand its original translations but I take it as a metaphorical text
Because forreal there is some hidden messages, metaphors up in there that hold some truth

Some will tell you what a day is to us could have been decades to god.

Yes, none. It's all metaphor to me and much of it has been incorrectly interpretted, if you ask me.
