Whenever this happens we usually have a Jim Jones type of effect were they call it a cult and all the members kill themselves.

I am seeing a lot of examples that says that the answer to your question is Yes. Many religious communities are increasing their tendency to cater to the wants of the people rather than to adhere to the original teachings. This changes the paradigm of faith as it no longer bases it on God but on man. Unfortunately, I think we are in for a lot more of the same as the time draws nearer for Christ to return. (How ever long that may be from now)

Yes, this community on y/a is an excellent example. Paradigm shifts don't necessarily
have to be dramatic, mind-blowing revelations, although those are my favorite kind, they can be subtle shifts in perspective
that gradually blossom into full-blown
epiphanies.
