I think of Satanism as followers of a group that honors (not worships) Lucifer, one of God's chosen angels. While a small group, many also are Christians. These are not contradictory.

Please note: this group is not the same as stupid movie stuff or the crap dealt out by ministers who have never read history or jerks who are into creepy crap. Lucifer is not a 'fallen angel' which is popularized by ignorant people, but in fact, one given supreme tasks directly by God (read your Bible people!). All this devil crap was created in the middle ages as a means to remove personal responsibility or explain mental illness. In other words, control over uneducated people.

No, I am not a Satanist. I just got past all the religious hype and got to the real historial issues. I would add that Discovery Channel actually has an episode that discusses this issue. it will likely be repeated. Look for it.

My answer does not include things such as evil spirits. That's a whole different ballgame.

I think that the Christian society pushed hard enough that they created the ultimate rebellion within their own beliefs!

Satanism derived from Christianity! For only the Christians believe in Satan!

well!!! I personally don't believe in Satan. I do believe in the act though. In my Opinion, it only means the lack of light and love. When some one engages in a satanic act-harm another being- they are expressing ignorance. The root of evil is Ignorance and believing that there is a Satan out there.

I know that it doesn't mean worshipping the devil. I think that most people believe it is when people do not worship a God. Satanism is a Chrsitian concept. They are the only ones who believe in Satan.

I think it means acceptance of the human condition as being ok, instead of sinful...

It means much more than that, it's just the first thing I think of.

(thanks to Morpheus for providing me with credible info on satanism).

The Bardnoir & I think of the Church of Satan (which was ironically the Anti-church) made up originally so people would stop following religion. The Church & God teach giving things up for the Lord, so they used the opposite concept - worship Satan & get rich, have sex and by doing for yourself you Honor HIM. Either way both are bogus.....and just want your money & their inflated egos in return.

LaVeyan Satanism is nothing to do with any deity, or counterpart. It's an atheistic philosophy. You can look up the "rules", decidedly not evil. Kind of a pragmatic view of life.

Satanism is the worship of satan.

I hesitate to say things like black masses, human sacrifice, daning naked in the moonlight, for how much of that is real and how much is a media invention?
