I have natural dirty blond/brown hair....I usually dye it a blond or light red color...For some reason the dyes I use don't penetrate the roots at all. They lighten up a tad bit.

Now my roots have grown out for 4-6 months ( I know, I know..) and if I dye it my usual color the roots will not take and it will look awful!

Should I just dye it anyway, go for a light, light blond and hope for the best or bleach it ALL and apply my color so my entire head is one , even color?

Please help me! Easter is coming....

First off you need to be extremely careful applying bleach to the scalp, unless it says that it is safe to do so on the package. The reason why it isn't lightening your hair is because it does not have a strong enough peroxide in it. (If your scalp ever burns you are having a reaction and need to take it off immediately)

You should try sally's beauty supply or something similar to that in your area that is open to the public. Find a color that you like and then buy the developer in a 30 volume. Whoever is working in the store will be more than happy to help you find this.

The box dies in the store usually have a 20 volume in them and thats not enough to lift a couple of levels.

This is a longer process, but the results will be better. Use bleach on the roots (be careful, it'll lighten up really fast... just bleach it to a browny color) Then when you dye your hair your usual color, it will take the dye along with the rest of your hair.

My natural hair color is the same as yours too. My hair grows out like in 2 weeks. I have it bleached to all blonde and then have a color toner but on after that. It really looks good. It sux because as a child i had blonde hair and reaching adulthood it got a little darker on me arrrrr". i would bleach it then out a color toner on it. i hope this helps you out.
