If love expands into mercy, forgiveness, charity, etc. could that have the long term affect of harming your own genetic pool? Is it logical to give? Two people raised in the same circumstances, have the same possessions / money. One gives and the other does not. Which one is logical?

Are people hanging up on the word love in this quesyion? It can be a deeep emotional feeling that causes onew to fall in Love or it can be kindness towards our fellow man. WHne it comes sto knidness towards our felllow man it needs to be shown alot more. God does state that he that helps others may be actually helping Hi,m. This is not a direct quote but it is close. I have listened to my pastror as he has told of people who asked Jesus when did I help you ? His response was when you helped the person who came to your door or who was on the side of the road in need. This is what I mean we need to be kind to one another yet we can stand our ground on our beliefs without being hateful or harsh. I try very hard to hate no one and be as compassionate as I can to all. I can not very well teach my children to not hate if I do so. I do ot agree with things and I make that known but I do not condem that Is the job Of God the Father.

Honestly the answer is not what you think.True christians believe that they are to help the less fortunate, but that only to help a believer in Christ. You should of course have mercy on anyone in the world, but to give to them is different.Having mercy is to not kick them when they are down. But you do not have to give to a person who is not of Christ. You really dont have to give to a person who is of Christ. But if you are truly saved, you will feel in your heart who to give to,God will speak it to you.You should forgive everyone, even the devil for transgressions. And you shouldnt hate anyone, including the devil.Because hate in your heart, will lead to hate in your soul, therefore tainting it,and your soul must be pure for God to accept into the holy kingdom.

The one who understands that we are all connected!

It is human instinct to help a fellow human out in the case of a horrible automobile accident. You don't ask their religious affiliation first!

No. It's a supernatural gift of Agape - love. It may not be logical - but it's a commandment.

Love the Lord thy God (with all thy heart soul and mind) - and "Love thy neighbor as thyself". Logic plays no part in it. We don't give to receive - we give because we love - and because God first loved us, and gave his only begotten Son to die on the Cross, not for our sins only - but for the sins of the whole world.

Sorry - I'm just warming up. I preach in about two hours!

Love is something to be earned, not given unconditionally. Therefore, loving strangers or people who mean little or nothing to you is illogical.
