Lately I've seen much complaining by newcomers that they are forced to take low level jobs on coming to America. What is really wrong with this? Isn't this how everyone starts out? I mean you may have to start in the shipping dept of a company before you can be president. Historically immigrants have EARNED respect for their various cultures through hard work and being contributors. Why should this change?

Our teenagers used to be able to earn money for college that way. Now those jobs don't exist. College is a huge nut for the middle class, with the social security insecurity looming ahead. I have no problem with legal immigrants taking those jobs, who are limited by sensible immigration policies not to flood our country with cheap labor and make it impossible for our own high school drop outs and high school graduates to earn a living wage.

I am against reorganizing our trade agreements, our country and our worker protections to enable the top 2% to get even richer. The Fed recently pointed out that with illegal immigration where it is, wages have become the lowest portion of gross domestic product since WWII. Recently a study came out showing that the number of Americans who have fallen into 'extreme poverty' has doubled.

Clearly the trickle down theory doesn't work. Or doesn't work with multinational corporations who have no particular loyalty to American workers.

We all have to start somewhere...however, if they are legally here and are permitted to work - I think like anything whoever is the best person for the job should get the job. Entry level is typical for most people to start out at, however, there are many people in the States that are hired from outside the country to come here and work because they are specialized and have a special skill. So this arguement is a weak one as there are so many different levels of immigrants, work visas, and everyone else who would rather live off the welfare system. I think we have much bigger problems.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with any "legal" immigrant taking a entry level position, what's wrong is an "illegal" immigrant taking any position. And this all starts with the companies that are willing to hire them @ even lower than minimum wage.

What are we talking here ILLITERATE ILLEGAL immigrants or the ones who come here legally, who MIGHT be qualified for higher positions?

Illegal Mexicans are frighteningly being backed by sheer numbers of Legal counterparts here. I'm shocked and amazed at how Illegal people are permitted to come here, and do whatever they please and balk at any kind of US laws. They call the shots.

Illegal immigrants are fearless and know the system better than we do. That is why they demand AND receive free education and health care while US Citizens must pay for the same benefits.

Political correctness is USA's greatest downfall, we just don't acknowledge it yet. I would have far more respect for this country if we took care of our own before reaching out. But due to celebrities taking an interest globally instead of right here at home, therein lies the rub.

I dont have a problem with immigrants coming and taking any job they earn through experience and/or training. What pisses me off is them thinking they are entitled to these whether they are trained or not because they have suddenly graced us with their presence.

I don't think there is anything wrong with anyone (US citizen or otherwise) taking an taking an entry level job. The controversy is with the surrounding issues ie; no one can exist on minimum wage, often no health insurance with these jobs, working conditions not regulated, irregular (seasonal) work. If an employer pays under the table they don't have to offer these things. Conversely people working under the table are not paying taxes into the system. So there are multitudes of problems regarding entry level / low paying / minimum-wage jobs.

However think it is wholly unfair and biased for you (judging by your tone) to discount immigrant workers as not working hard enough to EARN respect. Respect and a paycheck are two different things. There are millions of people in this country who work their fingers to the bone and can barely scrap by. Conversely, how hard does Paris Hilton work? Do you think she is worthy of ANYONES respect?

Our country could not exist without rank-file-workers, who in my opinion, deserve respect and a decent paycheck to go with it. They can earn a living for their hard work and pay into the system like we all do.
