You don't have to do anything you don't want to. But, yes, to be considered a member of the church, and participate in things like going to the temple and whatnot, you would have to be baptized. I spent about 8 years in the church and never got baptized. It never really bothered me. And when I chose to leave, no one made a big fuss about it.

I'm Mormon. Yes, in order to join the church/become a member of the church you must be baptized. However, you can attend without joining, you just won't recieve a calling, and the missionaries will continue to visit with you long after the lessons are over. Having the missionaries over isn't necessarily a bad thing, but eventually you will probably either join, or not. Might as well make that decision soon I say.

In order to join the church then Yes you will need to be baptized. If you do not feel that you are ready for this step, then it may be better if you do not. You should discuss your concerns with the missionaries. Even if you choose not to be baptized and join the church, there is still nothing to stop you from attending church though and becoming friends with the members of the church.

To officially join the church then sure, you would need to be baptized. If/when that happens is totally up to you. You definitely do not have to be a member to attend services.

I am a member myself and the resulting relationship that I have developed with Jesus Christ has made all the difference in my life.

My best advice would be to be aware of the thoughts & feelings that you have when you study the scriptures, are being taught by the missionaries and when you attend meetings.

Learning about and/or joining any religion is a step by step process. Take your time and eventually you'll know what is right for you.

I am not sure what "book" wolfy got that taught her that we think God is adulterous... I am not saying she did not read it, but I am wondering whether it was not an LDS book or she somehow took it out of context...also Lotta, for us being "born again" is at baptism and then each week when we renew those baptismal covenants by partaking the Sacrament.
Yes, as others have stated, to become a member of the church, you must be baptized.

Baptism by immersion in water by one having authority is the first saving ordinance of the gospel and is necessary for an individual to become a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and to receive eternal salvation. All who seek eternal life must follow the example of the Savior by being baptized and receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost.

I suggest if you still seek further knowledge, ask your Heavenly Father in prayer. He will answer you if you ask sincerely...

Baptism is an outward sign that you've chosen to repent of your sins and keep God's commandments. In fact, baptism is a commandment. It's symbolic of Christ's death and Resurrection (at least when it's done by immersion) and symbolizes a new life for you.

You are free to participate in Sunday services and such without being baptized, but to gain all the blessings of the Gospel, you must be baptized as Jesus was.

I'm glad to hear that you are talking to the missionaries. Next time you see them, ask them about baptism, and why it is important. To me it sounds like you may not have gotten to that lesson yet. Wait to make your decision until you are done the disscusions. Then you will have to information you need to make a decision. Don't forget to pray about it. Talk to the missionaries. They have dedicated two years of their lives to teaching those who want to learn more about the gospel. They will be happy to answer any question that you have.

If you believe that the Book of Mormon is the word of God, like the Bible, then you believe Joseph Smith to be a prophet. And if you believe this, then you must believe that we have the priesthood of God, and that baptism is necessary to fulfill all righteousness, as Christ said.

So, yes, if you want to join our church you must be baptised.

I will tell you from personal experience. I was baptized into the Mormon church and withi 3 days I was given a book I was not to have until I had been in the church for 5 to 10 years, in other words well indoctrinated so to believe anything and everything they dished out. This book told of God being in heaven making baby spirits with a wife. That would make him an adulterer. I do not believe that GOd is an adulterer as they teach. I found myself feeling so dirty that I started to bath in extremely hot water and scrubbing and scrubbing until my skin was red. This is the truth no lie. While I was doing this I beggged God for forgiveness and to cleanse me. It was the worst experience of my life. So please be careful and be forwarned about some of things that you will learn when you have been inthere longer. About 4 months ago my cousin was in an awful car wreck hit by a drunk driver, (they and there two sons are mormons) I did not know this at the time, but the one boy was on a mission field and was not allowed to come the side of his mother even though they did not know whether she would live por die through the first 24 to 48 hours. THat really bothers me as well. Take heed be very careful check on these thigns adn see if you really want to do this. May God guide you in your decision.
