If the standard bladder infection goes untreated for too long (depends on the infection, but could be as quick as a couple days) the person can end up with nephritis or pyelonephritis, i.e. a kidney infection. this is horribly painful and can in turn leave scar tissue/permanent damage in the kidney. people with nephritis often end up in the hospital for tests and IV antibiotics.

I once left an UTI untreated for a year! Once my symptoms went away I thought I was cured....

I kept feelin "not right" and "sleepy"...

It can progress to more serious infections.....

Don't be like me, get treated with antib's....

If it is untreated, then the person will develop an infection of their kidneys and get seriously ill ---->DEATH.

It depends on a lot of things. It can cause damage to the kidneys amoung other things-including the infection spreading through the entire body and being fatal.
If you have one, please get it cleared up.
