This is more of a philosophy question than a religious or spiritual one. Does it exist? I would say definately. Look at how many people love each other out there. You can see people who love each other all the time. Is is just a biochemical process? Well, all matters of the brain are just biochemical processes. People like to think it is more than that though. Is it an unprovable idea? Well, that is interesting. Love is different from one person to the next. It is also a pretty intangible thing. You cannot pick it up and weigh it. The overall concept of love is real, however no one definition will work for everyone as to what it exactly is. In that regard it would be an unprovable idea. Is the belief in love necessary? Necessary for what? You kind of have to qualify that one. Necessary to live. No, you can live your whole life without love. Necessary for happiness. That one would be hard to answer. For some people a definate yes. There are some people who would say they do not need love and are better off without it. They may actually harbor feelings of love but either suppress them or hide them. That is just a guess on my part though.
Has it been an advantage or disadvantage for man? I would say it has been an advantage. Believe it or not, the world is built on love. Why build early civilizations? You could easily get more gain for yourself without a civilization and all of those pesky laws. However, with a civilization, you could protect your family and loved ones easier. The laws could be used to shield them from harm. Also, love provided the trust needed to form partnerships and later governments. It is the glue that holds society together.

Yes love exists. It is more then a biochemical process. It is not unprovable, instead it is proven everyday in a loving relationship. Belief in love I guess is not necessary to live your life, but it would be a rather sad one if you didn't, don't you think? Belief in love has had many disadvantages caused men to put themselves in all sorts of situation. But in the end I think it is a real advantage. I think if men didn;t believe in love we would have killed our species off a long time ago.

Its not just a biochemical process. Otherwise when things got tough (and they do in every relationship), we'd simply move on. And most of us stick it out. I believe love is an advantage for mankind. I can't prove any of this however :)

I don't think "love" in and of itself, is a belief or a belief system. It is something that is experienced. On all levels of human existence - meaning - it is experienced through, mind, body and spirit. Consequently, when you are loved, you know it on every level of your being. Conversely, the lack of love is also lived and experienced on every level of your being.
Real love is not simply an emotion or a noun. In fact it is a verb. Love is action, where the lover is willing to make the ultimate sacrifice for the loved one. And here is where religion enters the mix, muddying the pure intent and nature of love. We are asked to believe that Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice, taking on the sins of everyone who believes in him, out of a sense of love for all humanity. This is a wonderful thing for the believer but what about the one who does not believe that Jesus is god? Suddenly they are not worth his love and instead, will find themselves sent to the horrors of hell because they cannot accept the idea that this man, this teacher, is in fact god.
This is not love in my humble opinion. This kind of love is conditional. Real love is unconditional. It is the ability and the willingness to put your own life on the line in order to help or physically save the ones you love. No conditions. Pure love via pure action and intent. With this in mind...
I would say that the firefighters who risked their lives, and those who lost them, in order to help save people THEY DID NOT PERSONALLY KNOW from the Twin Towers on 9/11, had love in greater abundance than what is portrayed in the bible about Jesus.

Love is great for woman and for man. You don't have to believe it to feel it. You just know.
Just like you don't have to believe that there's such a thing as the spectacular Northern Lights in Alaska. But when you see them you'll know that it's the most incredible thing that you'll ever see. You might not know how the Northern Lights come about but you'll still go WOW every time you think about them or talk about them.
Same with love.

what is love and what is lust. Lust means satisfying to gratify one's personal senses. And, and love means trying to satisfy the senses of the lover.
And God is the Supreme lover. May appear to be the same.
Disadvantage: love between a man and woman is no love, after some time, divorce: "Go to hell." Because there is no love. It is simply lust. We do not know what is love. Simply you are playing with lust, and lust, as soon as you do not satisfy my senses to my satisfaction, then there is anger, wrath. We love false things, and at the end we shall be frustrated. Love of God is free from anger and frustration, just full of happiness. And when you love God, you can give real love to others.
Advantage:

I don't know if you have a child or not, but if you do and someone grabbed your child and was going to do the unimaginable to him/her...would you give your life to save that child???.....that moment of sacrifice comes from a heart of love....the same love Jesus had for us when he endured a horrific beating and crucifition for us....

Don't even talk about chemicals and all that. You put this in "Religion & Spirtuality" and not "Science & Mathematics" for a reason. You know it's not just chemicals.
