Well- I'm considering finally taking the plunge and going to tan in a tanning bed.

What's your personal lotion of choice for holding in your tan?! Do you have any other secrets to maintaining the new bronze for a longer period of time?!

I've heard that showering, lightly exfoliating your body, and doing your shaving all prior to tanning help to maintain the tan afterwards.

Should lotion be applied before tanning as well? If so, what type?

Throw some names out of the lotions that have worked best for you!

And remember...you may be helping in saving the world from my blindingly white skin this summer, so don't be afraid to speak up. lol ;)

My two favorite lotions are Speed of Light and Spellbound, both by Designer Skin. Speed of Light has a fade defying formula with bronzers that give you instant gratification. Spellbound also has bronzers but has silicone in it, so it gives your skin a nice texture. ( Id go with Speed of Light)

The best way to tan efficiently is exfoliate/shave before hand, apply Speed of Light all over your body (especially arms and legs) right before getting into tanning bed and later use a moisturizing lotion designed specifically for people who use indoor tanning beds. My favorite is Hempz.
One more tip; wait a good few hours after tanning to exercise or get a shower, this will give the bronzers time to set in, giving you the full effect :)

Hope I helped!

I'm not against tanning beds but I should be. Someone told me if you tan use a lotion with hemp and a bronzer. I'm very pale also. The hemp I guess helps alot, I just talked to the lady at the tanning salon about it an hour ago. If you decide to use a self tanning lotion, make sure to put regular lotion around your ankle, elbows, and knees first that way you don't get orange in those places!! Good luck!

I dont go tanning in a tanning bed, but when im tanned or even when im not daily I use Jergens daily moisterizer and there are different ones for different skin tones and it helps you lock in the tan you have and it even has a little built in tan in it so it can make your tan darker its really popular and ive seen it in a lot of "must have" lists.

Please don't tan. I have a friend with skin cancer, my grandfather had it, my uncle had it....... I know tanning is popular, but please consider something like Oil of Olay radiance lotion. With daily use it subtly builds colour. And saves your skin! Not to be a fear monger, but the scars of getting melanoma removed are anything but pretty.
