the verb is "tropezar" or "hacer una zancadilla a alguien"..."to trip" as a verb cannot be used in English meaning "to travel"...trip is a noun when used with that meaning (go on a trip for example)

There are many translations depending on the context.

to trip = hacer un viaje, viajar; andar ligero, saltar brincar; tener un desliz, un descuido, equivocarse; hacer tropezar, hacer caer, echar la zancadilla

to trip over = tropezar, dar un traspié
