Listen to how much the the popcorn is popping... If it stops or pops only like once or twice in about 20 seconds, take it out... That is what I follow when I pop popcorn in my microwave popcorn popper... If you're popping the type that comes in a bag, follow the directions, but also take it out when it stops popping like above or the bag appears full. Some kernels will never pop, so aim for not having burnt popcorn... But with these methods, I often do not have many that do not pop :)

I usually cook popcorn in the microwave by hitting POPCORN on the microwave but a good amount of time to put popcorn in the microwave is 3 minutes and 15 seconds. Depending on how strong your microwave is you might just want to put it in there for only 3 minutes if you have a strong microwave.

Every microwave is different, for perfect popcorn you need to listen for the pops to slow down to one or two a second, that way it doesn't burn.

The time varies according to microwave wattage - start at 4-5 minutes, don't leave, and listen closely........pull the bag when you only hear 6 pops in 10 seconds....
