If you like what you hear, and you like to believe in something, isn't that your own personal choice? Maybe your parents brainwashed you to be religious, but what about converts? A tribe in Africa finds woman with large holes in their lips to be very attractive, the larger the hole the more attractive. In western culture normally the woman with the small frame and larger breasts is attractive. So are we brainwashed then? Or are the Africans brainwashed? When can people accept that everyone had different views and beliefs and it has nothing to do with brainwashing...

People use psychology and other sciences to disprove their spiritual experiences. Everyone experiences life in their own manner, nobody can prove or disprove this. Call it what you want, but the point is we can't deny something just because someone thinks it is wrong. Brainwashing is a pseudo-scientific name someone coined in order to give a negative connotation to all religious experiences.

Even religious people call it brainwashing when someone immerses themselves in a religious doctrine they find ridiculous.

Religious people agree there are cults. Heaven's Gate, Jonestown, Moonies, Nation of Islam, Jehovah's Witness... there are dozens... and it all depends on your personal religious status as to which ones YOU consider a cult. Atheists just believe in one less religion than any religious person believes in.

And since it is generally thought that cults rely on brainwashing..... atheists see religion....all religion... as a form of brainwashing.

It's rather ironic that people who have been brainwashed by society direct the label "brainwashed" to people they don't even know just because they think/talk/behave differently than "normal" people.

not all religious or spiritual people are brainwashed, just the ones who lose all sense of rational and replace science, psychology and common sense with something written by humans who believed the earth was flat, that God favors a certain race over others and that the sun revolves around the earth....

Why people in Africa see their ideal as the most beautiful as one thing and USA seems a different type as beautiful, UK something else, etc. is simply explained. The media sets our standards for beauty. When you are shown in movies, tv, magazines, billboards, etc, what is beautiful, you are setting a standard which all other people are compared against. So in Africa, it is what they see most. In the US, it's what we see most.

As far as religious brainwashing, you are either raised to believe a certain way or you are led to believe a certain way. When you hear over and over these stories, and you are told they are true, you will believe them.

So your comparison holds one truth, if you see or hear something enough, you will believe it to be true.

They try to do what the Bible teaches and others just want to make fun of them. I don't think religious people can be brain washed. Your parents may make you go to church as a child, but as you come of age you make your own choices.

i am brainwashed in a good way. my corrupt mind has been washed by the water of the word of God. More people need to be brainwashed because they are still reprobate in their thinking because of all the false preachers, prophets and teachers that have taught them. There is a famine in the land for hearing the true word of God. www.branham.org and www.leevayle.com

Ever listened to a religious fanatic?

Just try talking sense with a Muslim here and see where you get!

They'll deny all the history of Islam and call scientific facts "lies" and any evidence you give them "fabrications"; while they'll white wash their megalomaniac Mohammad, to make him a "Prophet"!?

Then you'll understand why we say that religious people are brainwashed.

Cheers!

Here is why.

Because most religions are taught to children in the form of Facts and Truth instead of Faith.

When people believe in something so fantastically absurd, for which absolutely no evidence exists, it is commonly referred to as "brainwashing."
