I can't speak for anyone else but my religious beliefs made me want to commit suicide.
I'm gay and I live in Tennessee. The south is not known for it's acceptance of gay people. Being a Christian in a conservative church made me hate myself with the things I was hearing from the pulpit and from others. I wasn't out of the closet not even to myself, but I knew I was gay inside myself. If it weren't for Logic, Reason, and Rationality I would never have become an atheist and I would be dead.
So for me atheism saved my life.

No. 800 million Buddhists worldwide are atheist and unlike Christians they tend not to suffer from stress related illnesses so disbelief does not adversely affect mental well being.

i think it's more likely that an atheist would have a sound mind that would not contribute to his thinking of suicide.
but if two people are thinking of suicide, one is an atheist, it's probable that the atheist is more likely to do it... unless the other person is a muslim extremist

If there was a corrolation it would be more likely be due to the fact atheists tend to live in more northern climates with less sunlight. If you eliminate that factor I doubt if you will find anything.

I would say yes under the circumstances of illness but ordinarily no because they know it would prove their mental depression which they deny. They want to APPEAR all happy and everything but, when things go wrong, they are the first to put the bullet in the gun or suck on a tailpipe of a car.

Not really. Atheists don't believe in God or the afterlife, basicly, if you're dead you're dead. Why kill yourself? Enjoy your life.
Even that I (a theist) know this.
