I have two miniature pinschers. One is a male who is 4 yrs old. He understands "no" & "bad" and his behavior is easy to control. The other is a female who is almost 2 yrs old. She is the complete opposite. She does not understand "no" or "bad" and barks constantly. I adopted her from a rescue 3 months ago. I have tried using other words and different tones in my voice but still with no success. She barks out the window, at the cat and when people come to door. How can I get her to stop?? She does understand how to "sit" and "lay down" but if she's not rewarded immediately she begins to bark and comes after me to get the treat herself. Please help.

As a part of her adoption contract, I am not allowed to use a shock collar. Aside from that minor detail, I don't want to resort to that. I'd like to believe there's another way. The water bottle trick seems to the most humane way to go so far.

She's been enrolled in an obdience class. It doesn't start until next Sunday but I'm crossing my fingers.
The water bottle trick has been working but when she gets really worked up its nothing to her.
Thanks for all your advice!!

I personally have had a lot of success with Kennel Training. It helps with all kinds of different behavior problems. You won't get immediate results with it because at first she won't like being confined and isolated from her "pack" (you) but over time she will learn to love her kennel. Dogs are den animals so her kennel becomes her den and therefore a safe place for her to go. When she starts barking and wont quit, put her in her kennel until she calms down. At first, she may throw a big fit. Your job is to ignore her. It might take a couple of weeks for her to learn that her barking, whining, crying and scratching will get her no results but in the end, she will figure out that the sooner she calms down, the sooner she can be released. As for barking at the cat, being placed in the kennel as a result of her behavior will teach her that her barking is not acceptable. Same with barking at company. I think kennel training is the most humane tool there is. Ignoring the whining and crying is hard to do but it works. I got my tips on kennel training from the humane society but I'm sure there are websites about it on the internet.

I had the same problem with my fur kids outside, every time the neibours would come out they would bark at them. Go to www.petedge.com and get one of their no bark units. They work great, every time the dog barks it will emit a high pitched sound that you can't hear but the dog can. It's kinda like a shock collar (which I would never use myself) but a lot more humane. After time they quit doing it.

Try a large zip lock bag with navy beans inside. Pick up the bag when the dog has a negative behavior and shake it with the command. You can drop it close to her, or place it down on the table rattling it. Dogs for some reason do not like the sound and will cower and stop their bad behavior. Try it, it won't hurt and you are not touching the dog.

That probably is why she ended up at a rescue. I think the water bottle is probably going to be the best for you. There is an anti bark collar that does not shock. It sprays nasty smelling but harmless citronella spray when you activate it.

Get a collar, but NOT a shock collar. They make collars that emit citronella. It's a harmless mist that dogs absolutely hate. The smell bothers them. It works the same way as a shock collar, but without the painful stimulus. It uses scent as a deterrent, rather than pain.

Your dog is asserting her authority.
You have lost control.
Take her for walks on a short leash. On the walks ignore her barking and short haul her when she barks by pulling up on the leash hard, but not continuously. Say SHH and nothing else.
Do this with short walks several times a day just for a few minutes.
DO NOT love on her until she obeys. Ignore her until she recognizes you as the leader of the pack. A treat carried in the pocket is her reward for doing it right, not love.........That comes when she "wants" to obey"
Love her profusely once you have control, but not till then.
Sound familiar? Yes, we watch the Dog whisperer on cable.
His methods work because the animals don't know him and they accept him right away as "Boss" dog.

Can't believe I'm saying this but I know people that it's worked wonders for and it's not as horrible as it sounds - they have them for all size dogs - shock collar. You can control it and it will work. Other then that the trainers I've talked to have said put rocks in a "pop" can tape it shut and every time she barks get as close as you can and shake the can. It startles them and they don't like the sound. It didn't work for us but I certainly got my exercise jumping up and down running to get the can and making as much noise as the dog. We had that dog for 13 years and he improved with age. Our new dog isn't a barker.

hi I even have have been given a neighbour who grew to become into having a similar situation along with her little yorkie. grew to become out he grew to become into fearful of being on the lead. She have been given him used to it via strolling him around the backyard some cases an afternoon to make being on the lead a relaxing adventure. If it grew to become into raining she could walk him around the domicile, take it off and placed it on returned jointly as smiling and praising him. Does your canines "shackles" pass up whilst he barks?(Does he look scared or confrontational?). If scared (shackles up)then i'm specific this could artwork with time and staying power. each and all of the terrific x

OK some will think this is unbelievable BUT... I have 2 cocker spaniels and one is perfect and never barks unless theres a reason, my other cocker, Abby she was a bad barker.
I tried this, it just came to me one day. I held my finger to my lips and quietly said whisper Abby, I did this repeatedly everytime she barked now....when i do this she whisper barks! literaly.
Give it a try......BTW when she whisper barks, from day one, I praised her ALOT and shes very proud of her (whisper)bark now.
