Nope I doubt it.
As long as USA remains as a Super Power, nothing could take away the influence of English as the international language for business purposes. It's just like any other languages. You learn it so that you can communicate with Chinese people. The Chinese market is growing greatly, so it would be an advantage if you know how to speak their language.
However, there is also an increasing number of Chinese people who are learning English so that no one would feel left out if they want to work in the US or Europe or China itself.
What happen to Japan? In the 80s, many people predicted Japan would take over the world economy. Subsequently, its economy crashed in 1997 and Japan remains as another country well-known for its automobile industry and electronics in this decade.

Mandarin is already the second language on the Internet with 159 million users and rising fast, which calculates to about 14% of all users, vs. 29% for English language users.
Yes, the US was the birthplace of the old Internet, and the US is still the biggest *military* superpower. But it's technical, educational and scientific advantage is slipping. And the English language might be following.
Many experts estimate that by 2020 the leading languages on the Internet could be Mandarin and Hindi, with English in third place.
(Of course another scenario is that the leading language on the Web could be a new form of English, a kind of English-based Internet Creole language.)

It would be very useful to know in the future because China is building their economy quite rapidly. My dad has always gone to China on business trips. It would have been helpful if he knew Chinese. However, it is very difficult to learn even for children in China! Therefore, it is highly unlikely that Mandarin will become THE MOST important language.
