as an adult you can be adopted and transfer all your rights over to your adoptive parents legally. But this costs a fair bit of £££. Better way is to say screw the old family - you dont need them. and place a letter of authority with the council and a lawyer stating this much . " I -----your name------ wish it to be known that -----new 'parents' name------------is now considered by me to be my legal next of kin. All rights and priviledges are to be afforded to ----------new parents name------ from this date forward. It is now my intention to disown mr/Mrs ----------old parents names----------- and they are to have no further legal rights to myself or my estate.
Then write a will and enforce your wants further in that......
Complicated but thats what a brief will do for you!

Now your 18 so, you make your own decisions etc, But if your step mom wants to adopt you just because she loves you ,that's Ok. I know someone who was estranged from her mom and family and got adopted as a 30 something adult by her own councilor because she was Like a mom to her through the years and they had a great bond. The councilor suggested it because she thought it would make her feel part of a loving family.

Charley, you didn't mention the place you are from. ppl from your place cud've given you better idea.
why in the world do you want your stepmom to adopt you, when she is not at all interested in you.
My suggestion is give it a thought once more, if your decision is still the same, i don't think you can be adopted without her wish. With her wish, you just need to complete the formalities of your local government's rules regarding adoption.
Hope, I haven't misunderstood that your stepmom is the one who got you arrested for contacting the siblings.

You are 18 don't you think it's time to stop playing people against each other? By the way, mum can't disown...no such thing. Can you disown your mum? There is no such thing as "out of sight out of mind" unless of course one has all the time in the world to waste on negative behavior. Communication and personal responsibility works wonders ...try it they are both prerequisites for adulthood.

Not easy as you are now an adult (in the UK)
In the USA you are still a minor.
Ask at the CAB or telephone a lawyer

You are probably too old to be adopted, but you can certainly name your stepmother as next of kin. Go and see a solicitor.

I think you need legal advice - not Yahoo advice!!
I think, though, that your biological mother has to sign stuff to say that this is okay, this is certainly true for children being adopted.
Good Luck.
