It does not make vitamins.........It has two basic function ! to remove the unwanted materials from the blood thus acting as filter ....these material can be abnormal blood cells which are produced in different haemolytic disease and increasing the size of spleen with that.thats why enlarged spleen in one of the sign of blood disorders like Leukemias etc.........Second fuction is to combate the infection, it is rich in T and B lymphocytes which are the protective cells for the body !!so yes they remove bacteria as well !

The spleen doesn't make vitamins, but it does act as a reservoir for red blood cells, and is a location where white blood cells are manufactured and trap bacteria.

1. Like others said, the spleen does not make vitamins.
2. It is a reservoir for RBCs
3. It is part os the reticuloendothelial system, it helps process encapsulated bacteria and aids in the "opsonising" of bacteria to tag them for destruction.
