I'm entering a competition for the 2nd year and need a cool and new idea. I've got a few, but am interested in hearing what people would like to see.
Right now my cake ideas are:
1. Pinata - burro
2. Bubble bath with a mom resting inside (kind of like mother's day cake)

This is a cake DECORATING competition. I'm doing it in fondant by the way. Haven't worked with marzapan yet.

Try to watch FoodNetwork...they always have a "Challenge" show on that sows chefs copeting with cakes and stuff. There have been really cool cakes like sports--soccerballs, butterflies and florals, and a pretty pink and black one that was wrapped with big pearls for a ladies 30th birthday.
Do something with bold colors---that'll make it hard to forget!!

too bad you do not know who the judges are... you could make them handing you a first prize ribbon on the cake. This way no matter what happens... you win. haha
Seriously... I am not sure. I guess knowing more would help with this because do you have themes? Do you have to make something popular in your area? What time of year your going to submit the cake? Snowland? Hurricane Season? I would probally consider all those options then go with making them give me first prize. haha
