i am thinking about buying a karaoke machine - http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5400337.htm but im unsure about what karaoke disks to buy. there are lots on the woolworths website - what does 'in the style of ...' and 'made famous by ...' mean?

You will want to go with the karaoke CD+G disc format as it offers many more song titles than any other format. The "in the style of" and "made famous by" descriptions mean basically the same thing, which is that the music and lyrics are based on the recording of the song by that artist. For example, the song "Turn The Page" would be completely different in the style of Metalica as opposed to the style of Bob Seger.
