furnace enclosed by walls(from in & out)of 8in.ofkaolin firebrick, 6 in. of kaolin insulating brick, &7 in. of fireclaybrick. what is the heat lossper sq. foot of wall when the inside of furnance is mainted at2200 degree f. & theoutside at 200 degreef. ?

go with 10in klin and put the firecy to 6.5in kaolin

Is it in a steel shell or not? I'll try to answer later when I'm back in work (at a refractories manufacturing company)

Edit: ok, I've had a quick look but it's hard to say without knowing more about your particular materials spec, though as a rough idea, our heat flow calculator thingy gives a heat loss figure in the region of 200 to 300 BTU/sq ft/hr
